Where is Landour?
It is a small cantonment town in Uttarakhand. This place is part of Mussorie. This town was built by the British Indian Army and was a convalescent station for the Military.The Landour most part is surrounded by deodar, cedar,oak,chir, pine, Himalayan fir, maple, etc. In this place, deforestation is restricted, which makes this place green and also reduces the number of houses constructed there.
What makes Landour so special?
The name landour derived from llanddowror- a tiny wlesh village in great Britain. One the British officers feel sick they come to this place. The British Indian army built and developed a sanatorium in Landour in 1827 to attend and serve the injured soldiers. The clock town of Landour marks the beginning of the town. No new construction is allowed in this place. At the time independence there were only 24 houses 4 shops known as choubis makaan and char dukaan.

To travel this place the road are well connected and little wider till Mussorie but from Mussorie to Landour the roads are narrow and to drive there one need patience.

Kellogg’s memorial church and Landour language school
The church was built in 1903 as a Presbyterian church and is named after Dr. Samuel Kellogg an American missionary who was very active in developing Landour.Dr. Samuel wrote many books on Hindi grammar in English language for the British to better under the Hindi. In this school other languages like Garhwali, Urdu, Sanskrit are also taught.
Sisters bazzar
This is a quaint place and this Bazar has about 4 shops – one each of Patisserie, General Store, Handicraft and a Ration shop
Landour bakehouse
Landour Bakehouse serves bakery, desserts, croissants, scones and buns, cookies, crepes and puddings, deriving the tried and tested recipes from the old Landour Cookbooks. The area is surrounded with Himalayan oak and one can have their time in such a beautiful place.
Anil prakash store
the landour baker is this shop famous for making peanut butter, chutney jam also.american missories use to make the peanut butter but later on this was sold to this family and since then they are making peanut butter.
Emily by roke by manor
This so happening restaurant and such a tasty food is served here especially Indian and contential food. The interior is decorated with wood and all the furniture is exotic.
Chaar dukan
As the name suggests four shops same is the view. Some of famous shops are Anil’s cafe and Tip Top tea shop have been here at Char Dukaan for more than 50 years visited by several celebrities.
St paul church
One of the oldest constructions built in 1840s. The British soldiers often complained about the theft of their rifles from outside the church during prayers. The church premises is so clam and beautiful.
Lal tibba view point
As the name indicates lal means red and tibba means hill. Due to the reddish brown soil colour. The view is so magnificent and people use to worship all four char dham from here. Maggi and tea are famous food which is served in cafes for tourist.
Christian cemetery
It is the oldest cemetery. The British soldiers who needed medical help were brought to Landour’s sanatorium. Visitors are not allowed here
Ruskin’s bond house
Ruskin bond was Indian author of British descent reside over here. His house is located over upper chukar. People use to come here in hope to see Ruskin bond.
